The City of Salford has come together to mourn yesterday’s loss of Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II died yesterday afternoon at Balmoral after being kept ‘under medical supervision’, according to Buckingham

Throughout her 70 year reign, Her Majesty visited Salford on numerous occasions, most recently to the ITV Studios and MediaCityUK in July 2021.

In a Press Release, Salford Mayor, Paul Dennett said: “We know that we represent the people of the city of Salford at this time in sending our condolences to the Royal Family who will also mourn the Queen as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

“The period since the coronation of Queen Elizabeth has witnessed many momentous social changes.
“As our Monarch, the Queen demonstrated her devotion to a life of service to the country and it is fitting that we come together to honour her.
“As Head of the Nation, she has been a focus for unity and pride and we will join the nation and our local community in mourning.
The Mayor also posted this statement yesterday evening:

Salford City Council have also arranged for a number of condolence books to be placed around the City for the public to leave their own personal tributes to Her majesty. These include Salford Civic Centre, Swinton Gateway, Broughton Hub, Eccles Gateway, Pendleton Gateway, Walkden Gateway, Irlam Recreation Centre, St Peters Church and University of Salford (The Old Fire Station on the Crescent).

Groups from around the community have shared tributes to Her Majesty online.

Salford artist, L.S Lowry was also appointed an official artist of Queen Elizabeth II Coronation in 1953.
