Salford families looking for ways to enter into the Christmas spirit can enjoy a range of activities at the city’s Museum and Art Gallery.

Messy arts and crafts, Father Christmas breakfasts and storytellers are among the seasonal attractions planned at the venue on Chapel Street.

Museum employee Niamh Lafferty said: “It’s always popular around Christmas. It gets the kids involved with the museum. The Father Christmas breakfast is especially popular.”

The breakfast events are being held on Saturdays December 6, 13 and 20. Activities include a story time session, crafts, a pick and mix playtime area and a small gift. Complimentary festive food and drink will be available for adults and children. Tickets for adults are £10, children £17 and under 3s go free.

A free event for the young ones is being held on Tuesday December 9 at the famous Victorian Lark Hill Place, where kids can come and listen to a telling of the classic Christmas tale of Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol”.

Children are also invited to get messy and ‘Make your Mark’ for only £1 on Friday December 19. They will collaborate to make floor art using paintbrushes, crayons, their hands and feet.

The museum is also holding numerous events for older ages this Christmas.

Salford Cathedral Choir will be performing Christmas carols at a free drop-in event on Saturday December 13 in Lark Hill Place.

More music entertainment will be available on Sunday December 21. Christmas and West End classics will be performed on the Blüthner grand piano dating back to 1922. Member of staff from Ordsall Hall, Ciaron, a professional pianist will be performing.

The café is hosting festive lunch events from December 8-19. The options on offer are:

Festive lunches: £12 per person
Festive afternoon tea: £16.50 per person
Chocoholics afternoon tea: £18 per person
Prosecco afternoon tea: £22 per person

Activities are also available for 16+ such as a free drop-in festive card making workshop on December 12 and a Christmas decoration workshop for 16+ on December 19.
