St Ann’s Hospice is changing its name to honour its inspirational founder and the work of hospice pioneers.
The hospice, which has a base in Little Hulton, will be known as the Moya Cole Hospice from October.
Dr Cole was a trailblazing woman who knew how important hospice care was, and still is, for the community.
The hospice will continue to serve and care for those impacted by life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones long into the future.
St Ann’s says the name change has been made to reflect the “wonderful and diverse community that surrounds us” and to remain culturally relevant.
St Ann’s Hospice said: “The decision has not been taken lightly and has been made in conjunction with staff, volunteers, supporters and members of our community.
“While our name is changing, the outstanding care for our patients and their loved ones will remain the same.”
The hospice has a new site opening in Heald Green, and plans to refurbish its Little Hulton base.
Chaplaincy Support Coordinator at St Ann’s Hospice, Peter O’Brien, said: “We may have changed our name to Moya Cole Hospice but with our modern new building, we aim to continue to provide what historically we have done since we first opened in a healthcare setting where we support the whole person as they attempt to come to terms with a life-limiting and life-threatening illness.
“Our state-of-the-art hospice will be a safe environment where we’ll take into our protection a person’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing.”
Regular donors, anyone who has left a bequest, or supporters who play their lottery won’t need to take any action.
But from October the name of the payee on bank statements will change to Moya Cole Hospice.
