Over 2,100 pension eligible households have now been paid their £200 winter support payments receiving a total of over £426,000.
The Salford City Council announced that as of January 28 2025 they have paid 2133 households following the schemes launch in December.
The scheme that will run until February 9 2025, has provided £200 payment per household for those of a pensionable age, who are not receiving pension credit.
In support of the council tax redirection scheme, the payment is aimed to help those suffering during the cost of living crisis with winter support payments.
As Mayor Paul Dennett said: “Taking this action now will support vulnerable people in our city this winter, it’s all part of our mission to tackle poverty and inequality.
“A key part of our corporate plan and manifesto commitment.
“This is our Salford, to build a fairer, greener, healthier and more inclusive city for all.”
Last February, the council committed to investing over £4,000 over three years in welfare rights and debt advice service.
Since that decision they have helped 781 pension age households gain more than £2 million in support.
Despite the amount of support that the council have provided, they have urged to check if they can apply, and may be entitled to warm home discount, a free TV license if aged 75 and over, housing benefits and council tax reduction.
This scheme closes on February 9th 2025 and residents can check your eligibility here.
