More than 2,100 pensioner eligible households have now been paid their £200 winter support payments receiving a total of more than £426,000.
Salford City Council has paid 2,133 households following the scheme’s launch in December.
The scheme that runs until February 9, has provided £200 payment per household for those of a pensionable age, who are not receiving pension credit so missed out on Government winter fuel payments.
In support of the council tax redirection scheme, the payment is aimed to help those suffering during the cost of living crisis with winter support payments.
Mayor Paul Dennett said: “Taking this action now will support vulnerable people in our city this winter. It’s all part of our mission to tackle poverty and inequality.”
Last February, the council invested in a welfare rights and debt advice service which has helped 781 pension age households gain more than £2 million.
Pensioners are urged to check if they are eligible for benefits such as warm home discount, a free TV licence if aged 75 and over, housing benefits and council tax reduction.
This scheme closes on February 9th and residents can check your eligibility here.
