The green light has been given for the next stages to develop 477 new energy efficient and affordable homes in Salford.
The new development of affordable homes has been launched following a meeting on Monday 9 December that approved the sale of land to Lovell Together LLP.
The long term partnership was made by Salford City Council’s Property and Regeneration to develop the land in Pendleton and Clarendon Park.
The development will see 477 new energy efficient family homes will include 142 affordable homes and four wheelchair accessible units alongside major improvements to the surrounding area.
The 142 new affordable homes will include 86 for social rent alongside new home ownership opportunities that will help improve the choice.
The option for choice will be an essential development to meet the needs for residents in Pendleton and the surrounding area.
Following the progress of the plan, Councillor Tracy Kelly, Deputy City Mayor and Lead Member for Housing and Anti-Poverty at Salford City Council said: “The approval of this next stage towards affordable homes and attractive public space is fantastic news for local people.”
“This all fits in with our plan to provide the affordable and social homes which local people need and deserve.
“The proposed mix also builds family homes in an area dominated by apartments,” she continued.
The improvement to the area will hope to benefit the community, and and aim to create a series of tranquil spaces.
The plan will aim to retain trees alongside an extensive new tree and shrub planting, wildflower grassland and seasonal bulb planting to attract pollinator species.
And the plan will also aim to promote a strong green infrastructure network with new landscape corridors connecting the park with the rest of the neighbourhood.
The plan will include a a connected network of cycle and pedestrian routes, well landscaped streets including street trees hedgerows and structural planting.
A new skatepark will also be built alongside a play area for both older and younger children as well as a multi-use games area.
The encouragement of healthy lifestyles will also be encouraged, with allotments also being provided for a healthier lifestyle and building communities as well as providing for local wildlife.
