A new construction skills academy has been launched to inspire the next generation of trade workers in Little Hulton.
The plans led by the Vistry Group will see the Brackley Village skills academy aim to to tackle a lack of construction career interest through providing training via local education.
The new initiative hopes to encourage people of all ages to take up trade construction.
The skills academy will cover the next two years, and will aim to develop 345 homes on Vistrys Fairways on the former site of Brackley Golf Club.
The custom built facility will train hundreds of workers in the region, and will provide on site training and skills development congruent with vocational training, which has seen a decline in more recent years.
A 2024 Study by OnTheTools indicates that 47% of employers are struggling with recruiting skilled workers. Despite the increase in a need for production, the employment turnover does not match it.
The scheme also promises to support students affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, with children who missed out on classroom teaching having found it more difficult to access career paths.
Cllr Tanya Burch, Ceremonial Mayor said ‘It is very much needed. I’m delighted to see this in Salford. It’s a great opportunity for young people in that particular area, distance can be an insurmountable obstacle. There is such an innovative vibrant feel at the academy, they are so passionate. ‘
The Fairways development space hopes to provide affordable housing with a mixture of houses on the market and for rent. The site hopes to significantly contribute to Salfords housing target and combat skills shortage.
Brackley Village skills academy will collaborate with education organisations such as Salford Skills and Work Board and Ionic Community Connections.
