Salford cheerleading company, Electric Athletes Midnight, have organised a sponsored tumble to raise £3,000 for their training kits.
The charity will see athletes doing one backflip for every kilometre from their Salford location to the ESPN arena in Florida which adds up to 6830 backflips.
The cheerleading company currently train in Salford, and provide a fun environment for all abilities and ages from the age of 3-years-old.
Providing multiple classes such as Recreational Cheerleading & Gymnastics, Prep Cheerleading, Allstar Cheerleading.
Over the past nine years, Electric Athletics have competed in the World Championships that take place every April in Orlando, Disney and collecting the Worlds Silver Medallists at the 2023 IASF Worlds Cheerleading.
The team is currently a team made of 26 athletes, starting from age 15 to 38 with experience ranging from two years to over 10 years.
And the team will be looking forward to the event, already qualifying at the BCA cheerleading National Championships by competing against other teams from around the UK.
Each team performs a routine which gets scored, then the highest scoring teams qualify for the competition.
The team then competes in the semi-finals, which is the top three teams from each country, with Electric Athletics automatically qualify as there are only three teams in the UK division, but they are hoping for a first place within the division.
Becky Whittle, Programme Owner and Head Coach said: “For some of the athletes this is their 9th time going to the championships and for some it will be their first time.
“So they’re just excited to go out there and prove to themselves that they can do the higher level.”
The fundraiser was set up in order to help the team fund their training kits for when they go to the competition.
Becky said: “It’s a lot of money for each family to have to afford to pay and also with having sisters on the team, that’s double the amount of money”
The team came up with the idea to make it into a sponsored tumble.
Becky said: “This is one of the ideas that one of the athletes came up with, they’ve got a chart in the gym and they are tallying how much they do in their training sessions and outside of their training sessions.”
The team spoke about their excitement towards the competition, they said: “We were so excited and relieved to receive the bid to compete at the Cheerleading World Championships in 2025.
“We are excited about the competition. We are training hard, doing extra training and getting as many performances in as possible before the event.”
The team have planned their choreography and will be practicing this in the run up to the competition.
Becky said: “Now its just practice and repping, trying to get their fitness up. And we have our showcase on the 24th November, that’s when friends and family get to see everything.”
