A Salford woman had to spend “30 minutes” trying to convince someone to step down from a roadside roundabout.

Personal trainer Danielle Clarke was driving when she spotted a man approaching the barrier of a roundabout, before she rushed into action.

She spent 30 minutes talking the man down from the edge, speaking to him throughout until police arrived.

She said: “I was approaching the roundabout, and I saw a guy walking towards the barrier.

“I went over to the man, and he actually started to talk because I was constantly talking at him.

“He just said he didn’t want to be here anymore.

“I literally spent 30 minutes trying to convince him that life was worth living.”

The heroic actions of Danielle were quick and vital, as according to the charity Mind onne in 15 people attempt to take their own life.

Danielle continued: “If anybody needs help, please please please reach out to somebody, because there is help.”

Throughout August 1.94 million people were in contact with mental health services.

Nearly 400,000  new referrals were received and two million care contact attendances during August alone, according to NHS statistics.

Andreia Fortes, registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, said: “Mental illness exists. It’s real, so we have to inform ourselves, ask someone ‘Are you okay? What do you need?’

“If you haven’t heard from a friend for two, three days, that’s not a common behaviour so check on them,” continued Andreia.

“In this era where we’re always on social media looking at other peoples’ lives, it’s important to look inwards.”
