Life of Pi returns

Due to popular demand the “spectacular” stage production of Life of Pi is returning to Salford this summer.

After its success the show, which is directed by Lolita Chakrabarti, will return to The Lowry for one week only from July 2 until July 6.

The production features a life sized puppeteered Bengal Tiger, whose performers won best supporting actor in one of five Olivier awards for the production this year.

The play, based on the international best selling book by Yann Martel, tells the story of a sixteen year-old boy stranded on a raft with animals, including the tiger.

‘After a cargo ship sinks in the middle of the vast Pacific Ocean, there are five survivors stranded on a single lifeboat – a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, a sixteen-year-old boy, and a 450-pound Royal Bengal tiger. Time is against them, nature is harsh, who will survive?’

Joining the cast and making her UK debut is Sonia Venugopal. Sonia originated the role of Rani on Broadway and joins the UK & Ireland tour in the role of Rani and understudy Pi.

Based on one of the best-loved works of fiction – winner of the Man Booker Prize, selling over fifteen million copies worldwide – Life of Pi is a “breath-taking” new theatrical adaptation of an epic journey of endurance and hope.

The Life of Pi has been described as a “true joy to watch” by Salford Now at their last run at The Lowry in December 2023.
