0161 Community Gym in Swinton is raising £1000 in order to make it more accessible for the community.

With the help of fundraising, the goal is for the new floors to be fitted, alongside providing yoga mats, a wider variety of weights, and other activities which are limited at the moment.

Since the gym opening in February earlier this year, owner Joe Chlebik is keen to offer the people of the Salford affordable classes to learn new skills.

In recent years Joe has been hosting free lessons in communal areas such as libraries and community spaces.

Joe drives to empower the younger generation by teaching a range of diverse classes such as boxing, mai thai, calisthenics and fitness classes.

Due to the lack of gyms designed for the younger generation in the area, 0161 Community Gym wants to inspire the younger generation to show a passion for sport.

Joe said: ”There is no barrier of entry for people who want to do these activities.

The aim of the fundraiser is to make the 0161 community gym an environment that welcomes everyone, as Joe believes: ”A lot of gyms in the area are inaccessible.”

He further states that: “Gyms within the local area are age restricted and not a nice environment for people of all ages to visit.”

As a result of the new facilities being introduced, Joe hopes that more people within the Salford community will be able to participate in extracurricular sport, and consider his gym as the warm and inviting environment he strives for.

Alongside the ‘GoFundMe’ page, sponsored runs, and a white collar boxing event are also taking place, with any funds being donated to 0161 Community Gym.
