An allotment society in Cadishead is a step closer to creating a nature reserve for the local community after netting a sizeable donation.
Poorlots Allotment and Leisure Society is currently raising £15,000 towards a new 1,000 square metres nature reserve, with work scheduled to start this summer.
The nature reserve will be open to local residents and schools and will include a wildlife pond, a wildflower meadow and a bird hide.
The waste management specialist CSG recently donated .£650 towards the project development.
Alan Cavanagh, chairman of the society, said: “We’re extremely grateful to CSG for the donation. CSG is a huge part of Cadishead and it’s fantastic to see the business getting involved with the community.
“We are edging ever closer to our £15,000 target and we’re planning to have the site finished for summer (this) year.
“It will be a great place for people to visit and for nature to flourish.”
CSG operates at 32 locations across the country and its flagship waste processing centre is based on Liverpool Road, Cadishead.
Cheryl West, Technical Waste Manager at CSG, said: “We’re delighted to support Poorlots Allotment and Leisure Society and its nature reserve project.
“Our Community Chest scheme was launched this year to support the clubs and groups that mean a lot to the people in the areas in which we operate. This nature reserve will be a fantastic addition for the local community and I can’t wait to visit when it’s finished.”
