Worsley Stores has been left “shocked” after the local community nominated them for the best small business award, just three years in the game.
General manager, George Smallman, 29, said: “We’re just very thankful for the support that we’ve got from the community.
“If it wasn’t for our dedicated locals and the community, we wouldn’t be here.”
They are “immensely proud” to become finalists at the Manchester Lifestyle Awards, especially as a fairly young business that had quite a rocky start opening up in lockdown.
George admits that opening up Worsley Stores amid a national pandemic was definitely “not the easiest time.”
“There was having to be a lot of adaptations in the business, lockdown was kind of loosening so you were allowed guests in but they weren’t allowed to stay.
“We had to knock out a wall slightly to get more people in when more seating was allowed.”
Despite this, the locals committed to the store for their (in George’s opinion) “incredibly good service”.
George added: “From year on year on year the community spirit has just grown and grown and grown, and we’re incredibly grateful for it.”
George states that the reason the community values Worsley Stores is because they value their customer base and “cater to everybody” through their selection of beverages.
“It’s all unique stuff, there’s no brands,” George added.
The Manchester Lifestyle Awards commence on March 23 2024 and residents can vote here.
Some of the other finalists nominated for the award include Sarsh Hilton Associates, Jacuzzi Manchester and Moon Wood Joinery & Kitchens.
