The Makers Markets returned to Salford Quays last Saturday, with the first weekend of weekly markets in the run-up to Christmas.
Starting on Saturday November 18 and running every weekend until Sunday December 17, local businesses from Salford gathered on the Quayside Plaza, between the Quayside mall and the Lowry Theatre.
Despite the rainy weather, the makers still showed up to showcase their businesses with everything from handmade gifts and Christmas decorations to delicious festive food and drink.
The markets, which usually take place only on the last weekend of every month, encourage the people of Salford to spend their money locally and to invest in small Salford-based businesses, especially over the Christmas period.
Salford Rum Company began on the markets around five years ago and has since grown into an award-winning business, which now has its own distillery down the road from Quayside.
Even through their wider success, Rachel, a wife of one of the two founders, says that they still prioritise keeping up with the markets, to get the word out to more local people, after it being such an integral part of their success.
“Support local businesses. I think it’s definitely important,” said Rachel. “Care and attention goes into this, it’s all done locally. When we started off first we had just bottles and bottles and we’d hand label it by hand, it used to take hours.”
The line-up of businesses is unique each week and is released here on the Makers Market Instagram.
