Rowers from across the North West will be coming to Salford Quays this Saturday to take part in the Agecroft Head of the Irwell race.
The annual event that is hosted by Agecroft Rowing Club will see hundreds of rowers compete across a plethora of disciplines.
At 3.2km long the race starts by Spinningfields and finishes at Millennium Bridge in Salford Quays.
The race takes a time-trial format and is a test of rowers’ muscular endurance as well as rhythmic composure.
Starting racing at 9:15am, the smaller boats will feature in the morning divisions while the afternoon will see the arrival of the large, impressive eight boats.

The event is open to all age groups including juniors, seniors, women’s and open categories.
The club said on Instagram: “A key event in the North West rowing calendar that allows crews from the region and beyond to test themselves over the 3.2km course that threads between the cities of Salford and Manchester finishing on the iconic Salford Quays.”
Agecroft Rowing Club was founded in 1861 after the merging of multiple rowing clubs along the river Irwell.
The club was named after its original namesake location in Salford and remained there for over 100 years before relocating to Salford Quays after the regeneration of the old Manchester Docks.
Currently housed in the Salford Watersports Centre between Ontario Basin and Central Bay, the location is also home to the Salford University Boat Club.
Weather for the day looks normal and the race should proceed as planned.
