Full-back Liam Shephard has become the latest player to commit their future to Salford City.

The Welsh defender has signed a new two-year deal, keeping him at the club until June 2025.

He follows Alex Cairns, Ryan Watson and Conor McAleny to agree to new contracts at the Peninsula Stadium.

‘Shep’ joined the Ammies in 2021, under Gary Bowyer, having made 49 appearances so far at the club.

Shephard had a successful end to the 2022/23 season, racking up four assists from 10 matches, in a campaign which he was hampered by injuries.

He said to club media: “I’m really buzzing, obviously last season was a tough season for myself but coming back
and playing the style of football under the Gaffer, it’s a no-brainer for me to stay.

“What sold it for me to be honest is the style of football, the family feeling we had last season. We had a good group of boys and we were just short in missing out, but I feel like we’ve kept a good core and we can go one better this season.”

The club finished in the League Two play-offs for the first time in its history, and Shephard has his sights set on a better finish into next season.

“I was saying this to a couple of friends the other day, I think this is going to be the toughest League Two in a long time. Some massive clubs have come up and some massive clubs have come down as well, but there’s no reason why we can’t achieve our goals and go one better.”
