Salford City Midfielder Ryan Watson has signed a new two year deal to keep him at the club until June 2025 after the expiration of his previous deal.

Watson, who joined 18 months ago from Tranmere Rovers, had been in negotiations with the club after his previous contract ran out at the end of the 2022-23 season.

The 29-year old, who has been promoted three times had scored seven goals this season before a leg injury cruelly ruled him out for the rest of the season in February.

Commenting on the new deal, Watson said: “I’m really happy to sign a new deal and I’m excited for the future! We can build on last season.”

Watson missed out on the chance to play in Salford’s Playoff defeat to Stockport but believes the side were “unlucky.”

“We’ve got a good group of players now who all played in the League. So I think if we can build on it then we can be in with a shout.”

Watson is the second returnee signing after Goalkeeper, Alex Cairns, put pen to paper on a permanent contract after his loan spell.

The contract is subject to the usual FA and EFL ratifications and approvals.
