Words Weekend is set to take over The Lowry from the 27th til the 29th March.

The literary festival returns to Salford for the second time bringing a diverse line-up to the quayside.

Words Weekend aims to unite communities and ignite imaginations with a line-up that champions diversity and social inclusion.

Every event is made to be accessible for anyone and will have sign language interpreters on-stage.

The festival also offers 25% of its events for free allowing anyone can experience the festival without spending a penny.

The Lowry will be home to over 60 events during the festival with a line-up of local and international talents.

Jackie Hagan brings ‘This is Not A Safe Space’ to The Lowry talking about the representation of disabled people on TV, expect comedy, angry poetry and the opportunity to win a free Frey Bentos pie on March 27th.

A mixture of stand-up and discussion comes thanks to Rosie Wilby’s ‘Is Monogamy Dead?’ based off her book the show discusses the subject of intimacy and love in the modern world.

Sex workers Juno Mac and Molly Smith pose pose the question ‘where sex worker rights fit with feminist and anti-capitalist politics?’ during ‘Revolting Prostitutes’ on March 28th.

Amrou Al-Kadhi brings their debut book: UNICORN: The Memoir of a Muslim Drag Queen.
to the Lowry taking us through their life from god-fearing Muslim boy to a proud, queer drag queen.

Tahira Rehman, author of ‘Mirages to Reality’ is set to perform on March 28th during the event.

Miss Rehman said: “I love the fact that it [the festival] is all about words, not only poetry and spoken word, speakers such as Katie Piper will come and share their stories.

“People can expect inspiration and a sense of belonging, sensitivity and connection when attending. That is what I aim to bring from my performance.”

Salford’s own Shaun Ryder will be part of an ‘In Conversation’ show on March 29th as part of the festival.

All this and much more will be taking place at The Lowry.
