The Band, a musical filled with the greatest hits of Take That is ready to take to the stage at The Lowry Theatre in Salford.
The musical, written by Tim Firth, tells the story of five teenagers creating a band in 1992, 25 years later, the members reunite in order to try and find their heroes.
The show has a huge cast including the five winners of BBC talent show ‘Let It Shine’- AJ Bentley, Nick Carsberg, Curtis T Johns, Yazdan Qafouri and Sario Solomon. Take That members including Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams are amongst the producers of the musical.
Gary Barlow said: “I don’t think we could have imagined the pride we would feel every time The Band goes into a new city or the amazing response it gets. Our aim is to give people the best two hours of their life.
“The Band is about the relationships really, not the music. You don’t need to be an avid fan, but Tim [Firth – writer] has so cleverly woven our music into a parallel universe. Whenever I see it I leave happy.”
Take That member Howard Donald commented: “The key to its success is familiarity; it strikes a chord with people’s lives by being a reflection for anyone who has ever been a fan or a supporter, or anyone who has had a group of friends and known love, friendship and loss.”
Manchester is home to some of the cast, Katy Clayton who plays Young Heather said: “Getting to open in Manchester was incredible; I can’t put it into words. All the years of training, the endless lifts my parents gave me to classes – it all paid off. To have my family there and for them to hear that insane response was just amazing. Salford will be the same.”
The Band has been touring since October 2017, with the tour stopping off at The Lowry from 16-26 January 2019.
