AN Oscar-winning Salford graduate will be back at the university as former students return to celebrate its 50th birthday.
Esteemed alumni will be attending the event on Thursday, December 7th in the New Adelphi building.
Every year the highlight of the evening is the Alumni Achievement Awards, which honour Salford graduates who have been nominated by their peers.
The awards are for achieving excellence in their respective fields. For example this year’s winners include Fonzo Romano, who won an Oscar for his work on The Jungle Book (2016).
A Nobel Peace Prize winner, Skumar Devotta, also accepted the award alongside Al Gore Jr in 2007 for his work on climate change .
Take a look at the Achievement Award Brochure, which details some of this years winners:
This year breaks the mould, as not only will the celebration be for the Alumni and the 50th year anniversary, but the awards are being given to a new category this year. The Rising Star awards will recognise those who have accomplished great things within ten years of graduation.
The awards also recognize rising small businesses, and allows Salford Graduates to be proud of their achievements:

Alumni Engagement Officers Lucy Fish and Paul Butlin have been planning the event for the past two months, and are excited to see their hard work come to fruition soon.
When talking about the winner of the New Business of the Year award, Lucy stated: ”His success is fairly recent in terms of his own business, but I think it’s nice to acknowledge peoples potential and also how much he is giving back.”
In previous years The Alumni Celebration has been regarded as one of the best events of the year held by the University of Salford. Take a look at a few snaps from last years event:
