undefeated Salford boxer Alex Murphy

An undefeated Salford boxer will step into the ring on Friday aiming to take his record to 12-0.

Lightweight fighter Alex Murphy will be looking to continue his undefeated streak as he travels to Liverpool to fight Dan Booth on the Gonzalez v Mikham undercard.

The 23-year-old boxer, who fights out of Eccles Boxing School, was meant to fight earlier in the year on the Wasserman show on October 25, but with the card being rescheduled it left the fighter without a date.

Murphy, who is now on the People’s Fighters card, said: “It was frustrating because I was six weeks into camp for the last date and then found out it got cancelled, but thanks to my management team I got another date pretty much straight away.

“I have just been staying in camp for longer. It just means I am a lot more prepared. I’ve worked hard for it so I can’t wait to just get in there and get the win.”

The televised show is introducing a scheme for the boxers on the card with three £1,000 bonuses up for grabs.

Murphy said: “It’s more of an incentive to impress and make sure we are more hungry. I am aiming to go home with an extra three grand in my pocket. It will be a nice early Christmas present.”

“It’s hard work I don’t think people know and understand how it is being on small hall shows and working your way up as a prospect and a ticket seller.

“Luckily I have good sponsors who back me. I am fortunate enough to train full time and do this as a career. Promoters are putting money into these shows which is helpful and hopefully, they keep doing this sort of thing with bigger and better fights.”

Despite not being in the ring since April, Murphy has been perfecting his craft, and fans can still expect to see fireworks and ‘another improved Alex’.

He said: “We’ve had a long time to work on things, to get better and to improve. Everyone knows it’s exciting when you watch me so just expect that same exciting fight but even better this time.”

The lightweight boxer draws in a big fan base, with many Bolton Wanderers fans travelling to watch ‘Super’ Alex Murphy.

After a slow year, the boxer is already hoping for a big year in 2025.

He said: “We are pushing for more titles in an ideal world, a central area title at the start of the year, and then if we can finish 2025 English champion that will be perfect.”

The English title at lightweight is currently vacant, with Joe Howarth holding the Central Area Title.

Howarth and Murphy have already met with the pair teaming up for sparring in preparation for upcoming fights.

Murphy will take part in the media day for the fight this Wednesday at Boxpark in Liverpool, with the venue being open to the public with free admission.

Murphy will also be at the weigh-in on Thursday at 6pm, back at the same location.

Tickets are available on his Facebook page.
