A Salford community organisation has set up a fundraiser for Christmas lights, horticultural projects and local events.
The Roe Green appeal, which is already at £1,410, is raising funds to improve the Christmas/Festival lights for the green for 2026 and beyond, and to continue to raise funds for community events.
Any funding up to £6,000 will be match funded by Salford City Council, with the association’s goal being £12,000.
Alongside the Christmas lights, the money will also be going towards events for the elderly and isolated persons, horticultural projects and to add to poppies and decorations on the Green for remembrance services.
Roe Green & Beesley Green Community Association was set up this summer to protect and preserve the local area.
Susan Robinson, who has recently moved back to Roe Green after having her first home there in 1998, said: “I was just sat at home one evening, and I just put a little note [on Facebook] saying, ‘Does anybody fancy setting up a community association?’

“I just posted it and from that minute, my phone never stopped.”
The fundraiser also contains awards from local businesses for donators to win, such as a £10 voucher for Liva Roe Green, or £50 of holiday with Chameleon Experiences if they donate £50 or more.
Art Table UK, who organise art workshops for kids and adults, have offered a “free art workshop for adult or child” for anyone that donates £100.
Eira Garner, founder of Art Table UK, said: “I’ve lived in Roe Green since 2011, my kids have grown up there and my business was birthed there.
“This community is special, not many like it these days, we need each other, we need community.”
The Association has previously hosted a picnic in the park, as well as a Halloween event.
Susan said: “If any residents come to us and said we would actually like to do something then obviously we’re here for the community. Whatever they want we will try and accommodate.”
