Karl Robinson has looked ahead to Salford City’s second round FA Cup fixture against League One opposition, Leyton Orient.

The Ammies will host Leyton Orient at the Peninsula on Friday night, kicking off at 7:30pm, with the game being showcased live on TNT Sports.

Across all competitions, Salford have faced numerous League One teams this season, including their first-round win against Lincoln City. The Ammies scored a 94th-minute equaliser courtesy of Kelly N’mai, taking the game to extra time and penalties.

Four perfect penalties from Fabio Borini, Luke Garbutt, Ben Woodburn and Dan Udoh meant Salford secured their place in the second round.

Robinson said: “I think certainly a lot more teams know about us now compared to a few years ago.

“I feel like people really respect us as a football club now. That’s due to all the hard work behind the scenes for the past four or five years.”

He spoke about the prestige of the FA Cup: “The FA Cup is the best competition to showcase. I remember moments of my childhood, where the FA Cup was a big part of that. It’s the spectacle of football in this country. As a kid growing up, it’s a reason why I love football.

Salford City have been drawn against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup second round.

“We have a big chance to get to the third round, and have an opportunity to go and play back at a big football club and raise the profile of Salford City.

“That’s what we want to do, we want to be successful and get out of the league and consistently keep raising our profile.

“This is another chance to show what we are and what we want to be.”

The last time the Ammies beat their upcoming opponents was back in 2022, back when Neil Wood was in charge with a 2-0 win.

“We know how hard it’s going to be against a side like Leyton Orient, they’ve got real quality in their team.

“We’ve got to make sure that we dampen down their strengths and highlight their vulnerabilities and carry out our game plan.”

Salford City defender Luke Garbutt spoke about Friday’s opponents: “They play nice football, they got to the play-off final last year, the manager’s been at Salford before, so that will add a bit of extra spice to the fixture.

“We’ve got to concentrate on ourselves and make sure we’re at a level of performance where we can compete. We want to introduce what we want to do and win the game.”

Salford will look to progress to the third round, exactly what they did last year, where they faced football giants Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, and book another big day out for everyone involved at the club.
