Salfordians to benefit from free parking at pay-and-display car parks in the lead-up to Christmas as shoppers are encouraged to spend their cash at independent and local stores this festive season.
Seven car parks across Salford will not charge visitors on each Saturday before Christmas Day.
Salford City Council said the decision to offer free parking on Saturday 6, 13, and 20 December will boost high street shopping and encourage people to buy local, helping small businesses to thrive during the busiest time of the year.
People can take advantage of the free parking at Partington Street, Monton; Hankinson Way, Salford; John William Street, Eccles; St Mary’s Road, Eccles; Corporation Road, Eccles; Irwell Place, Eccles and at Church Street pay-and-display in Swinton.
Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett said: “We’re proud to support local businesses all year round. With the festive season being such a key time for many, it’s great that we can offer free parking at selected council-run car parks across Salford.
“We hope this gives our high streets a boost and encourages residents and visitors to shop and explore local businesses, which has a positive impact on the community and local economy.”
Notices will be posted at all seven locations. Standard parking rules still apply, including parking within marked bays and displaying a Blue Badge where required.
