A Salford primary school is raising money to create a mural to mark its 90th anniversary.

St Augustine’s Primary school in Bolton Road, Pendlebury, wants to use the mural to capture the highlights of those nine decades.

Headteacher Emma Dilworth said: “We needed to make sure that we celebrated it because of how many children have passed through the doors, how many staff members have worked here and given their all.”

The school is holding fundraising events and seeking donations to raise the £2,000 needed.

An in-house danceathon has already raised £500 and the GoFundMe appeal has raised more than £800.

Students Valerie Ansong and Halima Lawal, members of the school council at St Augustines.

The mural will feature art work of local doodle artist, Dave Draws, who has travelled across Europe, Hong Kong and the US creating large-scale mural walls. He is set to start his work on the school in spring 2026.

The head said: “He is putting Salford and Swinton areas on the map, and that’s what I wanted for us, to put us on the map.”

The children are also eager to be involved and put forward their own artistic ideas and work alongside the famous artist.

Rebecca Hanlon Jones, a staff member at the school, said: “We have got some really good artists in our school.”

Colleague Joe Bailey said: “We’re focusing on local businesses. We do a lot of work in school regarding the community, so it would be nice if the local community showed their support to us.

“I have been out face-to-face and explained how important it was and how the children would really appreciate it. Ninety years is a really long time.”

Ken Corral, member of staff, said: “If we have a lovely illustration showing how proud we are of our local surroundings then that’s a really nice way to enter the building.”

School pupils Harrison Lewiston and Harry Martin.

School pupil, Peyton Barber’s parents and grandparents made generous donations, so they will feature on the map, and other major donors could be included too.

The GoFundMe appeal is linked to the school’s Facebook page which people can visit to make their donations.
