A Salford-based men’s mental health charity, Heads up Gentlemen, will be doing a festive 5km walk to raise vital funds.

On Saturday 13 December, around 20 members of Heads up Gentlemen will walk five kilometres to raise funds to support their men’s mental health charity.

The members will walk from Little Hulton Pavilion and make their jolly 5km journey down Manchester Road into Walkden.

Heads up Gentleman has encouraged its members to gain sponsorships for their festive challenges and will have charity collection buckets along the route.

Each person who donates to the group’s effort will be given a free candy cane.

Jeff Moritz, CEO of Heads up Gentlemen, said: “Heads up Gentlemen is a non-profit charity for men’s mental health and well-being.

“We are a group that has meetings each week to help out in the community.

“We’re trying to raise some vital funds for the charity, so we’ve decided to get in the Christmas spirit and do a five-kilometre walk in the Little Hulton and Walkden area.

“We’ve probably got about 15 to 20 members who are going to take part in the walk. We’re going to be singing Christmas carols and we’ll also have a Bluetooth speaker playing Christmas music, whilst going down Manchester Road asking for donations.”

They will be blasting Christmas music and will be spreading festive cheer and hope locals in Little Hilton and Walkden will turn out in numbers to support the charitable ramble.

They are encouraging the local community who are driving past to wave, honk their car horns and show festive energy to keep their spirits sky-high.

Jeff continued: “We’ve announced the time that we’ll be setting off is 10am, so if people want to come down to donate, we’ll be handing out candy canes.

“If anybody wants to come down and have a conversation with us, they are more than welcome. They can come down and see what we’re about, to become potential members themselves. We’ll be handing out leaflets and spreading the word for men’s mental health.

“We’re bringing that Christmas spirit into the community, I think it’s needed to spread that Christmas cheer.

“So we’re going to be singing along to Christmas music, doing some carolling. We’ll also have Santa outfits that we’ll be wearing, in full-on gear.”
