A veteran Salford councillor has joined Your Party, the new political party founded by ex-Labour MPs Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana.
John Warmisham who has represented Pendleton and Charlestown ward for more than 30 years has told the Local Democracy Reporting Service on December 1st, that he has made the decision to sit as a Your Party member in the council chamber.
The move marks the latest chapter in the long-serving councillor’s political journey. Cllr Warmisham resigned from the Labour party on March 23, 2025.
However, at the time the “born and bred” Salfordian announced that he will continue his current term of office as an Independent Socialist.
Cllr Warmisham has said that he aligns himself with the ideals by the party’s co-founder, Jeremy Corbyn.
“I’d always supported Corbyn, I thought that his socialism matches mine and it’s about serving people and doing what’s the right thing for people,” he said.

His resignation from the Labour Party earlier this year was a reaction to the national leadership.
He said: “A party that through this current national leadership has lost its moral compass and no longer represents the communities that it was set up to serve.”
He was quick to clarify that his decision is purely aimed at the national level, insisting his issue is not with the local Salford group.
