Long waits, sudden cancellations and unpredictable arrival times are causing complaints from some Salford bus passengers since changes to the Bee Network were introduced.

Student Eloise Sheard said the delays have made commuting to lectures stressful.

“The buses say every ten minutes, but sometimes you’re waiting for up to an hour, you never know whether they are coming or not,” she said.

Ellie Ryder, another student who relies heavily on buses, said the service varies from day to day.

“It’s the inconsistency that’s the problem. Some days it’s fine, other days you’re standing there ages. I think a lot of people want answers,” she said.

But others are happy with the service. One woman waiting at Salford Precinct said the changes had made little difference to her routine.

“For me, it’s excellent, I haven’t had any issues travelling,” she said.

The Bee Network says bus passenger journeys overall are up 14 per cent year on year and that punctuality has improved. It also notes that 84% of residents are now within a five-minute walk of a half-hourly service.
