In quite unusual circumstances, this weekend will see both Sale Sharks’ men’s and women’s teams face the same team as they continue their rugby union seasons.

Exeter Chiefs will make the 200-mile trip to Manchester, and the men’s game will be the first to get underway. It is a 19:45 kick-off under the lights at The Salford Community Stadium, with the hosts looking for just third win of the season, as they try to bounce back from a disappointing 20-0 defeat last time out against Bath.

Marco Bortolami’s side will be confident of picking their third win of the season despite Exeter sitting third in the table, after beating tomorrow’s opponents in the cup a fortnight ago.

The Chiefs come into this one off the back of an impressive 22-17 victory over Bristol and will be hoping to close the gap at the top of the table.

Fast forward to Saturday at Heywood Road, where the women’s teams will face off, with Exeter 6 points from the top of the League.

In comparison, Sale’s women’s team are struggling to find form in the league, and are winless in three games following their opening day victory over Leicester.

Sale Women’s go into this match after losing 40-24 away at Gloucester-Hartpury, however, the last time they were at home, they were on the end of a heavy defeat, losing 22-64 against Trailfinders.

The women’s team finished bottom of the league last season, managing just one win all season, and will be hoping Saturday will be a chance to kickstart their form with a win, and start to climb the table instead of lurking near the bottom again.

So an interesting week of Rugby Union will take place in Salford this weekend, as both men’s and women’s. teams entertain Exeter Chiefs, and will expect tough encounters, but will hope to come away with positive results and some points on the board.
