Eccles Congregational Church is getting the town off to a stirring seasonal start by hosting the Greater Manchester Police Male Voice Choir this weekend.

The event will have the group singing a collection of songs followed by a hot lunch to which everyone is invited on Saturday, November 29 from 12.30pm.

Jeff Pearce, Honorary Choir Treasurer, said: “We all sing to enjoy ourselves, we like being together.

“The concerts give us a buzz and hopefully the audience gets a buzz as well.”

The singers have a common interest which is to make music and having fun while doing it, as well as raising money for charity. The choir includes both retired police officers and civilians.

So far it has supported charities and community organisations including cancer research charities, charities for fishermen, children’s charities and schools.

With mental health issues becoming more prevalent in the older generations, this groups helps to combat this, with days out and a chance to socialise.

Joining a choir can be a great way to meet new people from across the region as they have regular rehearsals and community concerts to help build a connection with each other.

The choir, which performs throughout the UK and even in Europe,  rehearse at Sedgley Park Training Centre on Thursdays and welcome new members with no police history. All that is needed is a love for music.
