A Salford social club is turning up the festive fun to raise money for families of children with Down’s Syndrome.
Weaste and Seedley Social Club is offering to entertain with outrageous laughs, fabulous prizes, and plenty of festive sass in aid of a support group in Broughton.
The event will help to fund A Little Extra, set up by Peter McArthur and his wife Lauren Stone, for his daughter Eden in 2023.
He said: “We wanted her to mix with other children, and for us to speak to other parents and share lived experiences.
“We’re actually the only group in Salford. There’s there’s no other groups like us.”

The group received initial funding from Salford CVS, but is now self funded through events like the Christmas fundraiser which will help with a range of group activities.
Peter said: “We have Christmas parties, Easter parties. The funds raised helps to organise group trips. When it’s their birthdays, we get cakes for them and snacks.
“It’s just really nice. We have a chat and a moan every week, and you can see how the children have developed as well over the past couple of years that we’ve been running it.
“They all mix and play together, and we know all the little traits they have, and what’s going to happen. They have their routines in the morning when they come in.
“We were really happy that we decided to start it. We’ve made some some really good friends from it.”
So the social club on Weaste Lane, which previously hosted the first Weaste Pride this year, has stepped in to run a camp, Christmassy fundraiser with live vocals from Dee Dee and bingo with drag performer Tina Tuna, who is set to perform at next year’s Weaste Pride.
Dee Dee, also known as Daisy Allen, is a 14-year old singer from Swinton, who won the Johnny Marr Award 2024, along with the Co-op Academy Young Musician of the Year 2024. She was also a finalist of Talent Nation in 2022.

Event host Ian Carberry said: “You can expect a proper festive night out with plenty of laughs and a full-on camp Christmas vibe.
“It’s going to be one of those nights where you just enjoy yourself from start to finish.”
After Tina Tuna’s performance, she is set to host karaoke, as well as a cabaret act.
The event on Saturday December 13 will also include a raffle, with prizes such as a signed Manchester United football, “booze hampers,” children’s toys, sweets, biscuits and more.
A Little Extra is “looking forward” to the fundraiser. The group had a table at this year’s Weaste Pride, with tombola to raise money for the group.
Peter said: “We’re really grateful to the Weaste and Seedley Social Club.”

Ian said that the group is very close to the club’s heart.
He said: “Supporting A Little Extra means helping a local group that gives real support to people who need it.
“It’s nice to know that by turning up, singing your heart out, and shouting ‘bingo’, you’re helping someone feel that bit more supported.”
Ian believes it’s important to bring everyone together in the community.
Weaste and Seedley Social Club recently received a “Special Thank You Award” from the organisers of the Beautiful Minds in Salford organisation, which champions diversity in ageing and bringing the community together.
“We are aware that a lot of workplaces don’t have Christmas parties any more since the pandemic, so this can help those to not feel like they are missing out and tackle isolation, plus it’s all for an important cause.”
Dee Dee will be performing at 6.30pm, and Tina Tuna will follow at 8pm.
