A conference exploring the future of creativity, technology and innovation is returning to Salford today with more than 1,000 people expected to attend.

The Beyond conference is set to host more than 100 speakers across more than sessions in Media City from 24-26 November.

It brings together artists, researchers, technologists, policymakers, and industry leaders to share cutting-edge ideas in AI, immersive media, creative economies, and cultural innovation through talks, panels, showcases, and networking.

According to the conference director, Tara Solesbury, MediaCity in particular is “a place full of cultural energy, creativity, and innovation”.

Making it “One of the UK’s most exciting places for creative research and development.”

Returning to Salford after last year’s successful event makes perfect sense, considering its state-of-the-art facilities, a buzzing atmosphere, and strong ties to the UK’s creative industries.

This year’s Beyond conference promises a busy, wide-ranging programme, covering three core themes: CreaTech (creative technology), the Creator Economy, and Innovation Districts.

Attendees can expect keynotes, panel discussions, lightning talks, and immersive showcases, all designed to spark meaningful conversations about the intersection of creativity and technology.

Beyond 2025 features several speakers from global and UK creative organisations including, Alison Lomax, Managing Director for YouTube UK & Ireland, Mayor of Greater Manchetser Andy Burnham, Rishi Coupland, Director of Research & Industry Innovation at the British Film Institute among other high-profile industry leaders.

The conference kicks off with a free Creative Mixer on November 24  at MediaCity’s Hot House, a fringe event celebrating the next generation of digital artists.

Hosted by Nihal Arthanayake, the evening includes live performances from spatial audio artist Noelle Nurdin, experimental writer and performer Tamsin “Vice Vera” Middleton, and a showcase of cutting-edge prototypes and installations by emerging creatives.

Other notable voices include Emma Thompson from Fat Out, who will discuss inclusivity in immersive tech, and Garth Williams, founder of Safety Catch, exploring community through story-created technology.

Beyond 2025 also introduces a new emerging Innovators programme, spotlighting early-career talent working at the intersection of creativity and research.

The conference provides a platform not just for global thought leaders, but also for local creatives and researchers. It stimulates visibility to Salford’s cultural infrastructure and underlines its growing importance in the UK’s innovation landscape.

The Creative Mixer on Monday November 24 is free, while full-conference passes give access to all keynotes, panels, and showcases.
