Salford Pride have hosted an event called What’s The T, highlighting many trans artists and a guest speaker from the LGBTQIA+ community to celebrate Trans Awareness Week.

Volunteers from Salford Pride said, “As a charity, we are committed to providing free and accessible fringe events year-round for the Salford LGBTQ+ community.”

“Our mission is to create safe spaces that celebrate identity, encourage expression, and bring our community together outside of just our flagship event.”

“Mixed media artworks from local trans and non-binary artists were curated and displayed throughout the venue, with gender identity and expression being a core theme throughout.”

Althea J Eccles shared work at the event and said: “Words cannot express how unbelievably happy and honoured I am to have my film Transcend screened at Salford Pride’s Transgender Awareness Week Showcase!”

Events around the Salford area have taken place to mark the important LGBTQIA+ day in the calendar.

Salford Council said: “We stand together against hate and continue to create a city where everyone can live safely, free from fear and prejudice.”

People’s History Museum and Wiener Holocaust Library have collaborated to bring a lecture given by Jaime Starr, a freelance LGBTQIA+ historian and doctoral scholar at Newcastle University.

The online lecture will take place mid-day Friday 21 November through a Zoom link free for anyone to book on Eventbrite.

The history of LGBTQIA+ stories of holocaust survivors and post-war anti-fascist activism will be explored to celebrate the struggle of the queer community.

Transgender Day of Remembrance took place yesterday to raise awareness to be raised for people who lost their lives to violence and discrimination.

Many vigils to raise awareness and reflect will be held around the country today, including Sackville Gardens, which Salford Pride.
