An influential men’s mental health group in Salford says its progress is under threat without more financial support.
The community-led charity, Head’s Up Gentlemen, has rapidly grown in the past year through but its plans have been thrown into doubt.
Jeff Moritz, the founder of the charity, described this struggle to stage future events: “To be honest with you, right now we’re currently struggling with funding,” he said.
“We have a lot of things planned but until we receive some money this can’t go ahead”.
Last Friday, members of the group celebrated the success of its ‘Walk of Hope’ through Salford, which went ahead despite the harsh weather conditions.
“Last week was the last victory lap after the two walks,” Jeff stated.
The walk represented the charity’s commitment to inclusivity, with their youngest member being 19 years old and their oldest member being 92 years old.
Participants made sure to encourage each other every step of the way, creating a strong unity for supporting men’s mental health.
Jeff has planned to continue every Friday for the whole month.
But without funding, even these core activities may suffer and struggle to develop.
One of the charity’s key events, which had been arranged to set 12 confirmed men’s groups across Greater Manchester, including Andy’s Man Club, has had to be postponed.
Jeff explained: “It was all planned, but unfortunately, I’ve had to put it on hold.
“I’m going to do it; I’m just waiting on some funding.”
