A Walkden charity shop has appealed for volunteers to join their team this winter.
The store, Salford Step into Action, is run entirely by a team of five volunteers who are struggling to cover all of its opening hours.
Liz Reece, a volunteer worker at the shop, said: “We need more volunteers to cover the hours in the shop and the things that need doing.
“If a volunteer has an appointment, we don’t have backup. We have to close early.”
The shop is operated by a community group, also named Salford Step into Action, which was established during the Coronavirus pandemic to support the local community.
On their website, the group said: “While there is always more that can be done to help those in need in our community, there’s no doubt that we are making a significant impact.”
Every penny made in the shop is used to directly fund multiple community schemes, including food parcels, parent and baby groups, and welfare packages.

Liz continued: “I’ve made £1.50 so far today, but some days we make much more. The money we earn is constantly going back into everything and you can see how it is used.
“But the bigger the team is, the better.”
The Walkden charity shop are searching for volunteers who can spare a couple of hours each week, to allow them to continue funding affordable community schemes.

Members of the public can donate second-hand goods directly to the shop, or alternatively to their warehouse, both of which are on Manchester Road East in Walkden.
“If they have too much to donate we can go and collect it from their house.”
