Boothstown Christmas Light display

Salford City Council has confirmed its plans for this year’s Christmas lights and the continued display of flags in communities across the city.

As festive preparations begin, work is underway to install Christmas lighting on trees, columns, and roundabouts throughout Salford. These installations will continue until early December, and the council has made clear that existing flags will not be removed as part of the process

All sites scheduled for lighting have been assessed for potential risks and hazards. The schedule for the lights being displayed across the city is as follows:

Week commencing 3rd November: Roe Green and Moorside.

Week commencing 10th November: Barton, Winton, Parrin Lane and Westwood Park Parrin Lane.

Week commencing 17th November: Ellenbrook, Worsley, Monton and Brookhouse.

Week commencing 24th November: Eccles Church Street, Eccles pedestrian area, Irlam & Cadishead.

Week commencing 1st December: Little Hulton & Walkden, Civic Centre and Swinton.

Salford City Council continues to fly the Union flag at the civic centre, recognising both the Union flag and the St George’s flag as important symbols of national and civic pride. The council fully supports residents who wish to express their heritage in a respectful and responsible manner.

The council also said that flags will not be routinely taken down. However, any cases where flags pose a safety risk or constitute an offence, such as criminal damage, will be reviewed individually.

A spokesperson for the council said: “As we begin the preparations for the Christmas season, we want to reassure residents that flags displayed across Salford will not be removed unless they present a safety risk or cause and offence, such as criminal damage.

“We also remind everyone that workers installing festive decorations should not face any threatening or intimidating behaviour, and we appeal to all residents to treat one another with respect.”
