The boss at a Salford cricket club has backed the England Men’s Team to bring home the Ashes.
Brett Stewart, General Manager of the Monton Sports Club, is confident about England’s chances at the Ashes.
When asked about who he thinks will lift the trophy next week, Brett answered with a sharp and simple answer.
“England,” said Stewart, without hesitation.
The club itself is also looking forward to watching the Ashes, organising a watch party and sweep.
“We were going to show the opening day, but because it’s a Thursday night and Friday morning it’s difficult” said Brett.
“But we’re doing an Ashes Sweep here, so we’ve got a £20 entry. It raises money for the club, and the winner gets a prize.”
Brett has also singled out batter Harry Brook to be the player to watch for the Three Lions next Friday, when the first test of the 2025 Ashes begins.
The Monton Sports Club GM has also added that he is confident in Joe Root finally getting his first ton in Australia.
Monton Sports Club has a rich history, dating as far back as 1903 when on the fields on the left of Ellesmere Park Monton Lacrosse Park would play their home games, which later became known as Quaker Bridge Ground.
In 1921, Monton Cricket Club moved to the Quaker Bridge Ground and jointly leased the land with the Monton Lacrosse Club.
Fast forward to the 21st century, since almost going bust in 2011, the Club has succeeded from financial prosperity and has become a sporting landmark in Eccles.
