The honours were shared evenly between Salford City and Cambridge United at the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday.
Chances from Kelly N’Mai and Dan Udoh were not enough as the Ammies’ three-game win streak comes to an end.
Following an impeccably observed minute’s silence and a superb rendition of the Last Post, Salford got the game underway.
After a largely uneventful opening where both sides failed to sustain possession and build pressure, the game sparked to life when attacker N’mai attempted to beat goalkeeper Jake Eastwood with an audacious, long-distance chip, but his effort flew narrowly wide.
Cambridge Captain Michael Morrison threaded through Sullay Kaikai, who was on course for a clean shot on goal. However, Luke Garbutt was there to deny him with a lovely sliding block in the penalty area.
On 21 minutes, another chance emerged for N’mai as Haji Mnoga fizzed a ball towards the Dutchman’s legs, which he controlled well. He turned and lashed a shot at goal, but it narrowly missed.

Straight after half-time, Salford striker Dan Udoh was played through on goal but was denied by good covering defending.
Cambridge’s James Brophy nearly produced a moment of magic after wrapping his left boot around the ball. His shot looked to be curling into the top left corner but he had too much power on the attempt as it sailed wide.
After a lacklustre opening hour, the Salford fans came into good voice to try to spur their team on for an opener.
The biggest chance of the game emerged for the visitors. Salford are forced to head out a whipped ball which fell to the feet of Pelly Mpanzu. The midfielder struck the ball first time, volleying it across the goal.
The Ammies were given a lifeline as Mpanzu’s strike cannoned off the base of the post.
Salford rallied and Adebola Oluwo headed wide from a corner late on but after four minutes of additional time, referee Oliver Yates blew for the full-time whistle as a frustrated Salford were held to a draw.
