Beauty brand Claire’s is set to shut its Salford Quays location on Saturday 8 November, amongst mass shop closures for the longstanding High Street name.

Claire’s declared bankruptcy back in August and announced closures of stores across the country. The damage was limited after investment group Modella Capital bought the business. 145 branches of Claires were not included in the deal, however, including the branch in Quayside Shopping centre.

The manager of The Card Factory next door, Sandra Moran, expressed her sadness about the branch’s closure. She said, “We are devastated that it’s closing down, they are a very popular brand.”

“The people who go in there, come in here, so our business will be affected by the closure of Claires, and we are gutted for all the staff.”

A customer in the soon-to-shut-down shop had a different sentiment about the branch’s closure. They said: “They’ve pushed themselves out, they’ve outpriced themselves, everything is very expensive.

“You can buy similar things from other places at a fraction of the price.”

156 Claire’s stores across the country will remain open. Modella Capital managing director Joe Price has said, “We strongly believe this much-loved brand deserves the chance to remain on the High Street in the UK and Ireland.”

Unfortunately for those in Salford, the branch’s closure reflects a growing trend of High Street stores shutting down as consumers increasingly tend to shop online.
