Salford City College group are hosting a free AI workshop today in the Business Centre at Frontier House.

The event is designed to discover the latest AI trends, explore practical applications, and learn how to implement effective AI strategies to drive business growth.

Jamie Meredith, a business innovation advisor at Salford City College Group, described how his role is all about helping local SMEs (Small and medium-sized enterprises) understand how innovation can drive growth and that it’s not something to be feared.

Jamie said: “So many business owners hear AI and think it’s complex or out of reach and even fear it, but it’s often about using small, practical tools to make everyday work easier and more efficient.”

Jamie described how his role is to get more SMEs talking or considering innovation and what innovation means to their business; “This could include support on how to use AI, the dos and don’ts, how to put new processes in place through AI and using AI tools to utilise that.”

Events like AI Essentials for SMEs are designed to help businesses see how AI can support them in tangible ways. For example, automating repetitive tasks like data entry, scheduling, or handling customer enquiries can free up valuable time to focus on the bigger picture; whether that’s strategy, product development, or building stronger customer relationships.

The event is to talk to businesses that might find AI to be a bit of a challenge, or have never thought about using this technology.

Jamie spoke about how A lot of people fear that AI could actually take people’s jobs or change how they work, so it was just going over the AI landscape, understanding how it can help you and how it can help with processes along the way.

“One of the clients I’ve been speaking to in Salford was a paper-based business and never thought about coming away from paper-based. So they are coming to the event to understand how they can change their processes to more automation and how they can adopt automation from their sales enquiries to their admin support to their quotations and invoices.”

So these are the things that we’re going to touch on, how businesses can adapt this technology.”

Jamie spoke about the successes the workshops have had in Salford, with an AI basics workshop taking place in Pendleton College last week.

“If you look at the current landscape of where we are heading in AI. It is going to be a massive thing for all businesses, even smaller businesses that haven’t got the staff, need to consider how they can adopt these technologies because it is the way everything is going now”

“I don’t want businesses to fear technology. AI can advance them instead.”

This event is free to attend and registrations can be made here.
