Concerns have been raised after a young boy was recorded clinging to the back of a moving bus in Salford.
Footage taken by a passing driver showed the boy hanging onto the rear of a number 10 bus as it travelled down Cromwell Road in Pendleton on Tuesday 31 October.
The person, wearing gloves and a black tracksuit, dismounted on Lower Broughton Road after travelling dangerously for at least 10 minutes.
Despite speculation suggesting that the boy may have been trying to avoid the bus fare, Greater Manchester has the cheapest bus tickets of any region across the country.
After last October’s budget, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer confirmed that the bus cap would be increased to £3 across the country.
But Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has maintained the £2 single bus fare cap across Bee Network Services.
A TfGM spokesperson said: “This is incredibly dangerous behaviour which could have catastrophic consequences. It’s also a criminal offence.
“We’d urge all parents and guardians to speak to their children about the dangers of this kind of behaviour. Not only are these young people taking their own lives in their hands, but they will also face very real consequences if they are caught.”
