Broughton Park area

Salford City Councillors will decide whether a new parish council for the Broughton Park area will be established at the next full council meeting in November.

The decision will be made on Wednesday, 19 November, and follows a three-month statutory consultation with residents, businesses and community groups as part of a community governance review – a legal requirement following a valid petition, which aims to determine how local communities are represented at the most local level.

Located in the east of Salford, the Broughton Park area includes parts of the Kersal and Broughton Park ward and parts of the Boughton ward.

Surjit Tour, Salford City Council’s City Solicitor and Statutory Monitoring Officer, said:

“We’d like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation and gave us their views on the proposal for a parish council in the Broughton Park area. The survey response rate was very high and we are confident that the council ensured every opportunity for everyone in the area to have their say.

“We believe it is in the interests of the community and good governance for the council to make a timely decision on this issue so we have prioritised bringing the results together. This will enable us to bring a report to members for consideration at full council in November.”

The council has confirmed that briefing papers on the community governance review will be published on its website on Wednesday 12 November, a week before the meeting. These papers will summarise survey responses and set out recommendations for councillors to consider, taking into account operational, financial, and community factors.

All details, including the briefing papers can be viewed at www.salford.gov.uk/full-council from Wednesday 12 November.

The full council meeting will be held at Swinton Town Hall on Wednesday 19 November and will be open to the public. They noted that attendance will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

It will be livestreamed and recorded for later viewing on the council’s website.

The outcome of the decision will be published after the meeting on the community governance website, where a map of the area under review can also be viewed.
