Salford City Council has been highly commended across three categories at the prestigious Social Value Awards 2025, celebrating its leadership in community-focused regeneration and social impact.

The council received recognition for its work across three categories: radical collaboration, excellence in real estate and planning and creating capability, highlighting its innovative work to embed social value across every stage of development in the city.

The Radical Collaboration commendation recognised the transformation of a former housing office in Eccles into the Peel Green Construction Skills Centre –  a hands-on training hub helping residents gain skills and employment in construction.

Salford Council’s success in Excellence in Real Estate and Planning as well as ‘Creating Capability’ was awarded for its social impact developer guides created for Pendleton, Eccles and Swinton.

The framework, delivered by Savills Earth with Salford CVS through creative and immersive engagement with local partners and residents, hardwires social value into strategy, planning, procurement and asset operations.

Councillor Jack Youd said: “The regeneration of Salford is a fantastic opportunity to transform our communities and positively impact on everyone who lives and works here.

“Creating a brighter future for everyone in our city is our driving force, and that starts with understanding communities. Engaging with them about their strengths, needs and priorities helps to connect communities with opportunities from investors, developers and contractors.

“The Peel Green Construction Skills Centre is a powerful example of what can be achieved when organisations come together with a shared vision and a willingness to do things differently.

“It isn’t just a building; it’s a symbol of what radical collaboration can achieve. By combining the strengths of local government, social enterprises, employers and the community.

“The project has delivered a lasting social value legacy. It is building skills, confidence, and most importantly, building futures for Salford people,” he said.

Salford City Council has gained national recognition in recent years for embedding social value into it’s Local Plan, becoming the first council in England to require developers to submit social value strategies.

This approach supports the city’s ongoing goal to ensure every pound spent and every project delivered benefits local people and the planet.
