Salford City goalkeeper Matty Young has been named in the League Two team of the week.
The 18-year-old made a crucial penalty save in the Ammies’ 2-1 win over Gillingham.
Young, in his second loan spell from Premier League high-fliers Sunderland, has now saved four of the seven spot kicks he has faced, denying Bradley Dack on Saturday to inspire Salford to victory.
Salford raced into the lead within seven minutes, as Dan Udoh scored his second goal in as many games, slotting past Gills keeper Jake Turner.
Young’s moment came just 15 minutes later, as he denied Dack to maintain the visitors’ advantage, before Kallum Cesay doubled the Salford lead four minutes later, rounding Turner and squeezing it home.
Young said: “Another three points for us, that’s two wins on the spin now, I look at the table and we sit third now for another two weeks. We’ve got the FA Cup next week. I look at who we’ve played, we’ve played the majority of the top 10, so the games we’ve had, we’ve got really good results, and today’s another positive result and positive performance from the team.

“For me it’s about stepping up in those moments and making sure that I do come through with the save. Obviously today I have and it’s been vital in keeping the score down. They might have got one back but defensively we stayed solid all game.
“Everyone put their body on the line even the forwards, I’m sure Kelly had one on the line, and then I’ve pulled a save off straight off after that. Everyone’s contributing and that’s what’s seen us through and got us the three points.”
The Ammies now sit third in the league, one point off top spot, ahead of facing Lincoln City in the FA Cup first round this weekend.
