Karl Robinson praised his side after a 2-1 win against Gillingham, bringing the Ammies up third in the league table.
Courtesy of Dan Udoh’s fourth goal of the season and Kallum Cesay, the Ammies move to one point behind league leaders Walsall.
Karl Robinson reacted to his side’s important away win: “When it came to asking questions about how they defended as individuals, we stood up to the test really well.
“When they got into our final third, our goalkeepers and defenders were called upon. They certainly put their bodies on the line.
“When you look at the last 10 minutes, it was relatively calm. When you come away to a team with a front force like Gillingham, I thought it was a tremendous testament to us as they changed and made it difficult for us. We stood up to it wonderfully well.
“We changed our shape after 10 minutes. We put players in the holes to stop their runs. Once we stopped that, we gained control in the wider areas, and we looked stronger.
“We’ve won and we’ve played really well. You can call it a scrappy win, but when you make the six-hour journey away from home, against a team that is tipped to get out of the league. I don’t think you can call that a scrappy win; I think it’s a fantastic win.
“Thank you to the fans who turned up, we always appreciate their support.”
Thank you to everyone who made the long journey to Gillingham to support the lads, your support means everything 👏#GILSAL pic.twitter.com/pQzdSNPREw

An even contest between two of the top sides in the league, which ultimately has given Salford the chance to solidify themselves in the top six of the league. A hard-fought win, which makes it two wins in the last two for the Ammies, with their recent winless streak looking like a blip of the past.
Robinson continued: “We will now move forward from here with a little spring in our step and a lot of positivity.
“Matty Young has saved four penalties out of seven; he’s unbelievable. I was told before this that Gillingham has only conceded three goals in the league at home this season. So for us to come here and score two, I think that shows how good and how strong we are becoming, knowing what we did today and still I can ask more of my players.
He looked towards the Ammies’ next game in the FA Cup against Lincoln City: “The greatest club competition in the world, we need fans in and supporting this group of lads who care so much for the football club.
“Whenever you play in the FA Cup, it’s great. I love being a part of this competition. We’ll get ourselves ready for next week, and we’ll be excited to challenge a team that is in the top three in the league above. So we know how challenging that will be as well.”
The FA Cup tie against Lincoln will be hosted at the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday with the Ammies looking to beat a top side in the league above and put themselves in the hat for the next round.
