A man who was left paralysed after the Manchester Arena attack said he was ‘honoured’ to share his experience with a Salford soap star to help him with his latest storyline.
Martin Hibbert, who received life-saving surgery at Salford Royal after the attack on May 22, 2017, has shared his story with Halsall – who plays Tyrone Dobbs in Coronation Street.
Receiving 22 shrapnel wounds in the attack, Martin suffered a severed spinal cord, leaving him paralysed from the waist down.
Halsall, who is a longstanding character on the Cobbles, is tackling a spinal injury storyline after his character was injured in a hit and run leaving him unable to walk.

Mr Hibbert, Vice President of the Spinal Injuries Association, said he and his wife, Gabby, were happy to share their story of marriage after a life-changing injury with Halsall and Jennie McAlpine, who plays Tyrone’s on-screen wife Fiz.
“I’m so impressed that Coronation Street has chosen to tell this important story”,” he said. “It was an honour for Gabby and me to share our experience and see first-hand the care and respect the team is putting into getting this right.
“By showing that ordinary people can be affected, it helps raise awareness, break down barriers and start vital conversations about life after injury.”
Halsall thanked Mr Hibbert and his wife for taking the time to meet them and share their experiences.
“We might be telling this story on screen but at the end of the day we go home to our family and friends and leave behind what the characters are going through,” he said.
In the upcoming months, fans can expect to see Tyrone juggle his marriage alongside the mental and physical effects of his injury.

Coronation Street writers have been working closely alongside the Spinal Injury Association to develop Tyrone’s injury storyline.
