A group of mums have added a new Salford route to their regular wellbeing meetups.

Walking Mums Cheshire, a “collective of mums who show up for one another,” embarked on a group walk from Worsley to Monton on Wednesday 24 September.

Rachael Bagshaw, who previously lived in Monton, set up the group last September after running businesses through the births of both her children, with no maternity leave.

She invited mums through Facebook to join her on a walk with her children.

Since then, the meetups became regular, and she has amassed a community of 1500 mums, with over 7000 followers on social media.

Rachael said: “It started with walks, but that walking was like therapy.”

“We’ve got people from America, people from Canada, people from Australia, people from all over Europe, because they come and live in this area, and they don’t have the people around them to support them.”

Rachael says the feeling of organising the walks for the mums is “brilliant.”

She said: “I’ve had corporate jobs in the past, and you get to a point where you just want to do something that feels good.”

Members of the group have said it has been “amazing.”

Marta Krawiel, a mother of two from Runcorn, said: “It helped me to get out of the house, that’s for sure, and I also made a few friends along the way.”

“I love that Walking Mums takes us to places we’ve never been before, and definitely made my [second] maternity leave feel much different to the first one.”

Stephanie Harris, another member of the group, said: “Walking Mums has given me more than walks. It’s a community of mums who get together and support each other through every stage of motherhood.”

“It also organises fabulous events and encourages us to push ourselves out of our comfort zone.”

The expansion to Salford comes from requests from mums in the area.

Charlotte Morgan, a Salford member of the group since January, said: “I was actually the one who asked Rachael to start doing walks in Salford, and I helped find our local coffee shop perk partners and plan pram-friendly routes.”

Rachael said: “There’s been a real kind of following in Salford, so we’ve just kept doing more.”

The Roe Green Loopline walk is planned for Thursday 16 October, and the route is described as a “3 mile, pram friendly walk,” with “a stop at one of the brilliant Cup and Crumbs.”

Charlotte said: “The looplines round Worsley are perfect for pram walks, and even a bit offroading through the woods is possible!”

Rachael described the area around Roe Green as “gorgeous.”

She said: “I love that walk. It’s a really good trail, and it’s really pretty.”

Cup and Crumb Coffee in Worsley have partnered with Walking Mums Cheshire to offer a discount to registered members of the group, as well as somewhere to sit and chat after the walk.

Thomas Savage, director at Cup and Crumb, said: “It’s really nice to see them after they’ve had a great walk.”

“The staff enjoy serving them, we enjoy working with them, and it’s been really fluid and no hassle at all.”

Thomas said that “it just brings a really nice energy when they come in.”
