A workshop hosted by a talented artist in Media City has given budding curators a space to produce their own art.

Media City is best known as a home for technology, broadcast and digital innovation. But on Thursday, 18th September, Hot House opened its doors to creative energy and community crafting.

The Creative Lab opened a free lunchtime event designed to offer the chance to step away from workspaces and enjoy a world of colour and imagination.

Over two hours, visitors helped themselves to a range of vibrant activities: from pebble making to upcycled jewellery, there was something for everyone, even commissioning a bespoke service of £1 poetry.

Curated by artist and founder of Creative Lab, Venessa Scott, the workshop offered a showcase of beautiful artwork inspired by Venessa’s Jamaican heritage.

Stalls also represented international artwork, bringing a more global feel to Media City.

Scott, who was commissioned by the BBC to produce a mural in celebration of Black History month, which was showcased on Blue Peter, explained that, “the event is about getting everyone together as a community at Media City, it’s a creative lab on tour if you will and has got everyone to be creative.

“Creative lab is a space for people to create and connect. The whole vision in founding was it to provide a space where people could come together, whether they are professional artists, hobbyists, or just want to pick up a pencil again and just be together with other creative people and get creative.”

Scott, a flamboyant artist with an energetic and smiley demeanour, said the event was very much her vibe.

“It is about opening doors to creativity and creating a diverse space for people to connect, she highlighted.

This inspired event resonated with the community that joined along with refreshing feedback and an expression for more.

Kathy, a participant, explained that the event had been a great success and praised the “amazing environment where people from all different backgrounds came together.”

In the heart of Media City – a place known for its schedules and business – the workshop offered a reminder of the importance of relaxation and mindfulness.
