Salford City have announced the signing of experienced defender Michael Rose, joining the Ammies on a three-year deal.

The 29-year-old centre-back began his professional career at his boyhood club Aberdeen, before going on to make nearly 130 Championship appearances during recent spells with Coventry City and Stoke City.

Whilst at Coventry, Rose played a key role in their League One title success in 2020, helping his team keep 13 clean sheets in 30 starts on their way to promotion back to England’s second tier.

That 2020 success was his second title having previously achieved the same feat at Ayr United in Scotland’s League One in 2018.

He will now join Karl Robinsons’ Ammies, who are searching for promotion to the Sky Bet League One this season – following last seasons disappointment.

On signing for the club he said: “It is really good to be here. I am just happy to have got everything sorted, it is an exciting time and I am really looking forward to it.

“I will try to bring my experience and take it here, I have not played in League Two before so it is all new to me and different, but this is a project here that I am quite excited about.

“Obviously there are the new owners, and hopefully I can help on the pitch and as much as I can off it as well, and just help drive the Club forward.”

The new number 5 continued: “It is not going to be easy; this is a tough league, I have watched a couple of games since the interest came about and I have got a few mates who play in the league as well, so I know how hard it can be.

“It is not as easy as just saying that we are going to get promoted, you have got a lot of things to do week-to-week for that to happen.

“But it’s an exciting time. I have come down to League Two and I want to move back up with the Club, I have done it previously, and hopefully we do that here as well.”
