Salford Community Stadium - Salford City Council

Salford Red Devils have confirmed that their fixture against Wakefield Trinity that was scheduled for Sunday has been cancelled.

The club announced the decision ‘reluctantly’ following “significant concerns regarding player welfare and have been in consultation with the Rugby Football League, RL Commercial and Rugby League Cares.”

The game previously scheduled for Sunday 17 August, has been cancelled stating that this “decision wasn’t taken lightly; we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

The club also shared that “of the 17 available for Sunday’s fixture, there are only two senior players who have featured at Super League level over the last 12 months.”

With the rest of the squad being made up of Academy products.

And with eleven members of the first-grade team currently injured – the game can no longer go ahead, with a number of those are expected to be available for Salford’s next scheduled fixture against Leigh Leopards.

The club also shared that they have been fortunate to take on numerous loan players from opposing Super League teams over the course of the season, and have since thanked the clubs for their “efforts in helping us during these testing times has been greatly appreciated.”

Salford Red Devils have also stated that people who are season or match ticket holder, or have purchased a hospitality ticket for this fixture, will be contacted via the email address given at the point of purchase with further updates.

More information about the cancelled fixture can be found here.
