Salford City will hope to continue their winning form as they start their League Cup journey against Rotherham United.
The Peninsula Stadium will host the first round of the Carabao Cup and will see Karl Robinson’s side face off against the League One rivals.
The midweek fixture will kick off at 7:45pm on Tuesday night (August 12) and will see the Ammies look to continue their winning momentum.
Karl Robinsons’ side secured a 2-1 victory on Saturday in an away fixture against Notts County
Despite starting their season with a defeat to Crewe Alexandra, losing 3-1, but they were able to bounce-back with the help of goals from Ade Oluwo and Kelly Nma.
And despite a late goal from Jayden Luker, Salford were able to get their campaign underway.
On the same afternoon, one division higher, Rotherham were beaten for the first time this campaign, going down 1-0 in their League One fixture at Stevenage.
The Millers appointed Matt Hamshaw as the club’s permanent manager in April and did make a bright start to the season with a 2-1 opening-day win against newly promoted Port Vale.
And now with both clubs having one win and one defeat to start their season, they will be looking to make a serious impression in this cup tie.
However, this cup tie will be the second meeting between the two clubs – playing before in the first round of the League Cup in September 2020.
Salford City emerged with a 5-3 victory on penalties following a 1-1 draw in normal time and went on to play Everton at Goodison Park in the second round.
But the Ammies, however, went even further in the competition during the 2023–24 season, progressing past Preston North End and Leeds United before falling short against Burnley in the third round – but will be looking to go further this campaign.
Starting that game in September 2023 were young defenders Tosin Olopade and Kevin Berkoe, while Kelly Nmai came off the bench in the second half.
However, while Ammies fans will be hoping of a repeat this season against Rotherham it won’t be an easy affair.
The Miller’s record in recent seasons has generally been consistent in this competition, with the South Yorkshire club reaching the second round six times in the last eight seasons, including in each of the last three.
While Salford may have exited the Carabao Cup at the hands of Doncaster Rovers in an all-League Two tie at the first-round stage last season.
Karl Robinson’s side were victorious against League One opposition in another cup competition last year, defeating Shrewsbury Town 2-1 in the FA Cup in November – and will be looking to do the same again in front of a home crowd.
